| This barn was built in 1927 by Austrian carpenters.
Austria has a tradition of building large stout barns. This barn is very
strong. As a boy, I help stack hay bales in it all the way to the top roof
line. It has a wonderful large loft that I used for a basketball court when the
hay was out of it. It is a work of art with large wood beams and beautiful
architecture. It is scheduled for a roof treatment on the east side- the west
side has galvalume roofing and does not rust. We had large draft horses in the
six horse stalls with harnesses hanging in each stall. They were used in the
fields. My grandfather was a musician and was a maestro on the five row button
accordion. All of the family played different instuments and the Cukjati Band
entertained with large barn dances in this barn. With the barn doors closed, it
is a warm building and my horses relished their stalls in the wintertime.
